Did you know that it's Mental Health Awareness Week this week? It's from the 14th - 20th May and provides an opportunity to get talking about mental health and wellbeing. There is a wealth of resources available and we've selected just a few below to help you get started. The list is not exhaustive but we hope it is useful
Classroom resources
- Anna Freud Centre's child mental health experts have also developed a booklet: ‘Supporting mental health and wellbeing in schools’, a series of expert advice films which offer practical guidance about what teachers can do in the classroom to support mental health, and what to do if they are concerned about a child and a leaflet for parents and carers offering tips to talking mental health with children.
- Anna Freud have developed some classroom resources including lesson plans, films and case studies about how to implement them and help talk about mental health in schools
Whole School resources
- The National Children's Bureau have developed a whole-school toolkit for schools to help them tackle mental health problems
- The Department for Education have produced a publication about tackling mental health in schools after working with a number of schools
- Heads Together: Mentally Healthy School - a website which has many resources for schools to use including teaching resources, tips and many other support documents to help your school
- MindEd is a free educational resource and e-learning on children and young people's mental health for all adults
Support for parents
- YoungMinds have a free helpline for parents about mental health. You can call on 0808 802 5544.
- Internet Matters have produced a helpful list of wellbeing apps for children
- Place2Be have some tips for parents about supporting their child
- YoungMinds have a parent survival guide
- Internet Matters have a list of experts take on cyberbullying and the impact it has on mental health and how to support your child
Direct support for young people
- NHS Moodzone has lots of information and tools about supporting your mental health
- Moodscope offer a tool to help measure your mood as well as an excellent daily blog you can receive via email and highly recommended by us.
Bullying and Mental Health
